Not only is this the roller coaster capital of the world, but it's not that far away! I'd recommend driving there on a Friday night, staying at a hotel Friday & Saturday nights, then driving home Sunday night.
Our Favorite Place to Stay: Cedar Point Express Hotel https://www.cedarpoint.com/stay/cedar-point-express-hotel This is a clean, updated hotel, close enough to the amusement park without actually hearing the noise of the coasters. It has a nice pool and a McDonald's right across the street (to walk to breakfast). Hotel offers discount admission tickets as well as early entry passes to the park. Great deal!
Must Dos: Get a 2-day pass! Cedar Point rides and their Shores water park. Cedar Point also has a beach, if you're into that sort of thing! Here's a video tour of the water park http://www.chroniclet.com/state-news/2017/04/11/Cedar-Point-unveils-video-tour-of-new-water-park.html
Sweet Deals: Get the meal plan, but only for HALF of your family. It's more food than you can eat, anyway. Since you can eat every 45 minutes, get shareable meals (ex. chicken tenders and fries) with a drink. Also, Groupon now offers discount tickets! https://www.groupon.com/deals/cedar-point-11
Other Fun Things to Do in the Area: Head west to the Toledo zoo (one of the best in the country) or head east to the Rock & Roll hall of fame. If it's raining, there is an indoor adventure center near Cedar Point called Ghostly Manor https://www.ghostlymanor.com/
Off Season Idea is Super Fun! -- In the Fall, Cedar Point has quite a few autumn-themed and Halloween themed activities throughout the park. Definitely check it out!
My kids LOVE the Hallow-weekends!
